Understanding Our Social and Emotional Health

Human ecology, that is, how we relate to and care for ourselves and others, is our middle school’s social and emotional health curriculum. Building upon the foundation of the K-4 social and emotional health curriculum, we practice integrity, celebrate diversity, appreciate individuality, and strive for inclusion, as we learn to help ourselves, each other, and our community. As a community, we view ourselves to be part of a human ecosystem in which we can make an impact on each other and on our environment. We strive to help each other grow and be healthy individuals. We move towards becoming stewards of our world. We aim to recognize our own needs and the needs of others so that we can find ways to help one another grow and prosper.

Caring for Ourselves

Caring for ourselves means being aware of our emotional, physical, mental, and social needs and finding ways to defend and nurture those needs.

Practicing Diversity and Inclusion

Practicing diversity and inclusion means recognizing that our individual uniqueness gives us power as a community. We strive to create a supportive and safe environment in which each individual can thrive and be his or her best authentic self.

Caring for Others

Caring for others means being aware of others’ emotional, physical, mental, and social needs and finding ways to defend and nurture those needs.

Integrity

Integrity is taking personal responsibility and acting consistently with honor.
