Monday Morning Meetings
All students meet on the steps at 8:30 on Monday mornings to start the week together. Students sit with their classes to give and receive announcements about new campus-wide curriculum, projects, and events. Students may perform skits, demonstrate skills such as jumping rope, or performe a dance. Best of all, we announce and celebrate birthdays of the week.
Buddies
Our students love meeting with their elementary campus buddies, as well as their cross-campus buddies from the middle school. Buddies meet to read, draw, write, work on projects, and play together. The buddy system creates leadership opportunities for the older students and unifies our school.
Families
Each student at the elementary school belongs to a larger Prospect Sierra “family.” The families consist of two students from each grade, kindergarten through fourth grade, and one or two campus adults. The students enter a family as a kindergartner, enjoying the camaraderie for five years until they join a new family at the middle school. Fourth graders lead the family, gathering up family members to join each meeting and escorting the kindergartners back to their classes at the end. Families meet formally six times per year to work and play together.
Leadership
While all students have opportunities for leadership, fourth graders are the leaders on the elementary campus. They teach the other grades about waste management, composting, and recycling. Members of the 4th grade class assist the Elementary Division Head with March Mathness, a series of math challenges that coincide with March Madness. They also assist in the distribution of lunches for students who participate in the lunch program.
Lunch Clubs
First through fourth graders look forward to lunch when they may participate in various club activities in addition to free play on the playground. Weekly offerings include Art Club, Science Club, Jumprope Club, Dance Club, and Music Club. The library is open at lunch four days a week, and Capture the Flag is offered once a week. These clubs and activities are all-inclusive and are supported by the faculty.
