2nd Graders Celebrate Their Special People
The 2nd grade Special Person Celebration is a joyous community event that honors important elders in our children’s lives. Through interviews, students learn what life was like for their special people growing up and use this information to write their biographies. They also create a poem, name art, and a portrait celebrating their person, along with a Venn diagram of their similarities and differences.
Finally, students gather and cook their special people’s favorite recipes and invite them to school to share in a luncheon with the whole grade. Their hard work on display connects each child to parts of their own unique identity, and the room reflects the constellation of stories that make up our community!
