Making Music Boxes in colab
8th grade colab students recently undertook an ambitious challenge: to build a wooden music box! This project entailed conceiving of and executing several components: an instrument with multiple playable keys, a revolving crank mechanism to automate a melody of the student’s choice, and a wooden enclosure to house the entire contraption. Each step required a lot of planning, testing, and reworking, as well as an overall sense of imagination and creativity.
Students worked with partners, in small groups, or alone. They utilized various tools including several types of saws, screwdrivers and hammers, and in some cases, the laser cutter. The results are music to our ears!
