Maria Montes Clemens

Elementary Spanish Teacher

Maria Montes Clemens, Elementary Spanish Teacher, arrived at Prospect Sierra in the fall of 2014. In her classroom, she uses TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), a method of language education that employs a mixture of reading and storytelling to help students overcome the barriers of learning a foreign language. Maria has a BA in kinesiology from UC Berkeley and a MA in kinesiology from Sonoma State University. While at Prospect Sierra she has also served as Technology Committee team leader and Diversity Committee team leader. Maria has presented at the People of Color Conference and at the National Association of Independent Schools. She’s the mother of two and lives in El Cerrito with her husband. Her hobbies include hot yoga, gardening, knitting, and spending time with her Yorkies. She has been a teacher for over 30 years.
